My ceramics journey all started …
one evening back in college, when I was looking for a fun elective to balance out my already intense mathematics schedule. I know what your thinking, MATH…… who would EVER want to major in math, well this girl! While browsing around the class offerings, I wanted to experiment with a more hands-on class. Ever since I was a little girl, I have always enjoyed hobbies that allowed me to express myself. As someone who had always expressed herself through sports, I decided to explore my creative side through art. Art was an entirely new and different area that I had never experienced beyond coloring books and finger paint as a child. Art became a pleasant change of pace and a steady stress relief from the constant crunching of numbers, equations, quadratic formulas, and real analysis work that consumed my life.
One of my good friends and classmates suggested that I enroll in Ceramics 101 because it was super fun, but warned that it was particularly time-consuming. Boy were they right! The class schedule consisted of six hours of lecture and wheel working each week PLUS the additional time outside of class needed to complete projects. Unfortunately, after the semester ended, and my studies further progressed, I became preoccupied in my undergraduate degree and left the clay behind. It was not until I wanted to further my education by enrolling in a master's program that I found my way back to ceramics.
By this time, I had acquired some new interests in my life, such as training jiu jitsu and babysitting adorable twin girls, Abby and Natalie. When I found a nearby ceramics studio that was convenient to my apartment, I decided to once again try my hands in the world of clay. With every class I learned new techniques and I renewed and cultivated my love for ceramics as my skills progressed. After moving to a new town, I discovered a nearby studio to advance my ceramics work. Currently, I spend around twelve hours in the studio sharpening my skills and creating unique art for others to enjoy as much as I do...
... and I cannot wait to see what the future holds!
